Homemade Laundry Detergent

When my hubby and I first got married I decided I wanted  to make my own natural cleaning products and laundry detergent.  Not only are all the ingredients safe for the environment but they are also significantly cheaper than store-bought products.
Ingredients: 2 cup Fels Naptha Soap~1 cup washing soda~1 cup Borax~10-15 drops of citrus, lemon, or tea tree oil (optional)~1 35 oz container
Directions: Grate Fels Naptha soap using the smallest grates, add to mixing bowl.  It takes a little over 1 bar of the soap to get your needed  2 cups.  Crush the soap peels with the back of a spoon until grainy.  Combine the washing soda and Borax with the soap and mix well. The soap has a natural lemon scent but if you would like to add a little more scent to your clothing, drop in essential oil of your choice and stir well. Tree tree and lemon essential oil both have some serious disinfectant power if that appeals to your needs.   Store in airtight container.
Use: For large loads, add 2 tbs and for small loads, add 1 tbs. Recipe makes enough for 32 large loads. The Fels Naptha soap used in this recipe is also a very good stain pre-treatment, just wet stain with cold water and rub soap bar directly on it, let sit for 5-10 minutes.
Note: The first time I made the recipe the grated soap made little curly Q’s but this time as I grated the soap it actually crumbled into a powder, I am guessing it’s because the soap had a few months to dry out.
